A lot of advice online is often targeted toward the young and athletic. Pure Performance is about achiving the activity that brings you joy, no matter your age.

So I thought to myself, “What do the happiest people in the world do in the morning that allows them to keep striving for their goals?”

I realized after 20 years of being the ambuleance at the bottom of the cliff, treating knee injuries, is that as soon as you wake up, you should focus on keeping your foundational movement pattern primed and ready to go.

Otherwise your body will default to a protective movement system, shutting down muscles and reducing flexability. And when you need to climb that mountain or kick that ball your body won't let you.


I BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE 3 THINGS TO FOCUS ON:

The knee loves movement and stability but hates twisting and aggressive pressure. By loading the knee in a progressive fashion we can start the process of healing the knee and allowing it to perform to an optimal level.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

John Appel originally from the Mountains of Idaho, currently living in Wanaka New Zealand has practiced Physical Therapy for over 20 years. He has a special interest in knee injuries and has seen hundreds of knees move from injury/pain to function and fun.

Bulletproof knees came out of the concept Pure Performance. We ask the question, what level of fitness do I need to be at, to achive the activites that bring me joy. For John, Pure Performance is being able to confidently ski big mountains around the world, surfing west coast New Zealand or mountain biking summer time ski resorts. The foundation movements you will find in Bulletproof knees are all exercises that John does on a weekly basis to maintain his active lifestyle.

With a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology and a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy, John has the knowledge, skill and expertise to build a new movement pattern and foundation towards achieving Bulletproof knees.
